Scientific Literature Overview
RPW - Therapeutic
Effects of radial extracorporeal shock wave therapy on clinical variables and isokinetic
performance in patients with knee osteoarthritis: a prospective, randomized, single-blind and
controlled trial.
Authors Uysal A, Yildizgoren MT, Guler H, Turhanoglu AD
Published Int Orthop; 44(7):1311-1319
Date Jul 2020
Place of
origin
Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Mustafa Kemal University
Medical School, Hatay, Turkey
Background Although there are many studies about ESWT on musculoskeletal disorders as well
as on chondroprotective effect on animal have been published, there is very limited
evidence in the scientific literature to support the effectiveness of rESWT therapy in
human knee OA. To the best of our knowledge, only a few studies have assessed the
use of ESWT in human knee OA, and these studies have investigated only clinical
outcomes, not the muscle performance
Objective This study aims to compare the efficacy of r-ESWT treatment with sham-ESWT on
pain, walking speed, physical function, and isokinetic muscle strength in knee
osteoarthritis.
